The International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the latest additions to its Hall of Fame at a glittering event held at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London. The Class of 2025 features seven cricketing greats whose contributions to the game are immense.

From the men’s category, MS Dhoni, Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, and Daniel Vettori were honoured for their outstanding achievements. In women’s cricket, Sana Mir and Sarah Taylor joined the elite list.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (India)

4,876 runs at an average of 38.08 in 90 Tests, with 256 catches and 38 stumpings

10,773 runs at an average of 50.57 in 350 ODIs, with 321 catches and 123 stumpings

1,617 runs at an average of 37.60 in 98 T20Is, with 57 catches and 34 stumpings

As captain, Dhoni led a young Indian side to victory in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa. He famously sealed the win in the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup final with a six, ending India’s 28-year wait for the trophy. He also guided India to a Champions Trophy title in 2013. Under his leadership, India held the No. 1 position in the ICC Test rankings for 18 months. Dhoni was named in the ICC ODI and T20I Teams of the Decade in 2019.

Hashim Amla (South Africa)

9,282 runs at an average of 46.64 in 124 Tests

8,113 runs at an average of 49.46 in 181 ODIs

1,277 runs at an average of 33.60 in 44 T20Is

Amla was the fastest player to reach both 6,000 and 7,000 ODI runs. He was also the first South African to score a triple century in Test cricket and retired as the nation’s second-highest Test run-scorer.

Matthew Hayden (Australia)

8,625 runs at an average of 50.73 in 103 Tests

6,133 runs at an average of 43.80 in 161 ODIs

308 runs at an average of 51.33 in 9 T20Is

Hayden was a dominant force at the top of the order and still holds the record for the highest individual Test score by an Australian (380). He played a crucial role in Australia’s 2007 World Cup triumph, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 659 runs.

Graeme Smith (South Africa)

9,265 runs at an average of 48.25 and 8 wickets at an average of 110.62 in 117 Tests

6,989 runs at an average of 37.98 and 18 wickets at an average of 52.83 in ODIs

982 runs at an average of 31.67 in 33 T20Is

Handed the captaincy at a young age, Smith holds the record for most Tests captained (109) and most wins as a Test captain (53). He led South Africa to the ICC Test mace in 2013.

Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)

4,531 runs at an average of 30.00 and 362 wickets at an average of 34.36 in Tests

2,253 runs at an average of 17.33 and 305 wickets at an average of 31.71 in ODIs

205 runs at an average of 12.81 and 38 wickets at an average of 19.68 in T20Is

Vettori became the youngest man to play for New Zealand when he debuted. One of only three players to achieve 4,000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests, the all-rounder also led New Zealand to the ICC Champions Trophy final in 2009.

Women’s Inductees

Sana Mir (Pakistan)

1,630 runs at an average of 17.91 and 151 wickets at an average of 24.27 in 120 ODIs

802 runs at an average of 14.07 and 89 wickets at an average of 23.42 in 89 T20Is

Sana remains Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in ODIs and the second-highest in T20Is. She also became the first Pakistani woman to top the ICC ODI bowling rankings.

Sarah Taylor (England)

300 runs at an average of 18.75 with 18 catches and 2 stumpings in 10 Tests

4,056 runs at an average of 38.26 with 87 catches and 51 stumpings in 126 ODIs

2,177 runs at an average of 29.02 with 23 catches and 51 stumpings in 90 T20Is

Taylor was instrumental in England’s 2009 double triumph in the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup. She made crucial scores of 54 and 45 in the semi-final and final of the 2017 World Cup. Renowned for her exceptional wicketkeeping—particularly leg-side stumpings—she retired with 232 dismissals, making her one of the finest in the women’s game.
