Australia captain Alyssa Healy is confident in her team’s capabilities, ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup.
“I’m looking forward to that obviously, but the cricket conditions pose a different challenge to our group, which I think we are really well placed for,” said Healy.
“We’ve got so much depth in every area that whatever conditions are thrown at us, we’ll be well placed to handle that. So, I’m really excited for the strength of the squad,” Healy was quoted as saying by the ICC.
Australia will be going to the World Cup as the defending champions, and Healy said that her team would love to win consecutive titles.
“I don’t think anyone has gone back to back for a while and there are a lot of those sorts of milestones that we’d love to achieve. Winning World Cups is special. They’re the pinnacle of our sport. So, we know we’ve got to go there and play consistently.”
Sophie Molineux, the 27-year-old spinner, makes a comeback after suffering a knee injury last year. She will be an important weapon for Australia alongside Georgia Wareham, as the subcontinent pitches offer more help to spinners.
Australia are seven-time champions, and they have an experienced side, featuring many players who played the last edition.
Australia will play a three-match ODI series against India ahead of the World Cup. Australia’s first match of the tournament is against New Zealand on October 1.
