West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer has been roped in by the Desert Vipers as the team’s wild card signing for the upcoming season of the ILT20.
Before joining the Vipers, Hetmyer was part of the Gulf Giants in the first three seasons, including the inaugural campaign where the Giants won the title by defeating the Vipers in the final.
Hetmyer, who has played 69 T20Is for the West Indies, is a valuable addition to the franchise. The southpaw strengthens the Vipers’ batting lineup. So far in his ILT20 career, he has amassed 666 runs, including 48 fours and 33 sixes, at a strike rate of over 150.
“I am so happy to be joining the Desert Vipers. I have enjoyed my battles with the Vipers during the past three seasons. The franchise is filled with quality players, and I am looking forward to playing with them rather than against them,” said Hetmyer.
Hetmyer will be a huge asset for the Vipers: Moody
Welcoming Hetmyer to the team, Tom Moody, Desert Vipers Director of Cricket, said:
“Shimron is a player we rate extremely highly, so securing his services is a real coup. He has proved a thorn in our side in the DP World ILT20 in the past, so having him in our ranks now is great news. He is also a smart cricketer who knows the T20 format inside out. I have no doubt Shimron will be a huge asset for the Desert Vipers in the coming season, and we look forward to welcoming him to our team later this year.”
Twice runners-up in the first three ILT20 seasons, the Desert Vipers are still in search of their first title.
Retained players: Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand), Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka), Sam Curran (England), Max Holden (England), Dan Lawrence (England), David Payne (England), Khuzaima bin Tanveer (UAE).
Direct signing: Andries Gous (USA).
Wild card signing: Shimron Hetmyer (WI).
