Varun Chakaravarthy is back among the wickets after going wicketless in the first Super Four match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. He took two wickets to help India win the match against Bangladesh by 41 runs.
The day did not start well for Chakaravarthy, as he conceded three fours in his first over. On the second ball of his second over, he was hit for a six by Saif Hassan. However, he made a strong comeback by taking the wicket of the big-hitting Shamim Hossain. Shamim tried to make room but was bowled by a straighter delivery.
In his third over, Chakaravarthy conceded just two runs. Mohammad Saifuddin was his next victim. The seam-bowling all-rounder tried to hit a delivery outside the off stump but was caught by Tilak Varma.
The 34-year-old spinner had taken one wicket each in the first two matches of the tournament. He did not play against Oman in India’s final group-stage match. Although he was economical against Pakistan in the Super Four match, he failed to take a wicket.
Chakaravarthy bowled four overs and conceded 29 runs at an economy rate of 7.20. The world’s number one T20I bowler has been outshone by his spin twin Kuldeep Yadav, who has taken the most wickets in the tournament so far.
India remain unbeaten in the tournament, having won five matches in a row. The Indian spinners are bowling brilliantly in this Asia Cup, and most teams have had no answer to them.
