Bangladesh captain Litton Das could be a doubtful starter for the upcoming Super Four clash against India, which will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, September 24.

Litton sustained a back strain during the team’s training session at the ICC Academy Ground on September 22.

The 30-year-old appeared to be in discomfort after attempting a square cut in the nets, feeling pain on the left side of his waist. Team physio Bayzid ul Islam assessed him, and he subsequently left the practice session.

“We will have a look at him (Litton) today because, from the outside, he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call,” a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told Cricbuzz.

Although Litton did not appear to be in much trouble after the incident, losing their captain would seriously impact Bangladesh’s plans against an unbeaten Indian side.

In their first Super Four match, Bangladesh played brilliant cricket, winning by four wickets. Saif Hassan provided a fantastic start with 61 runs off 45 balls, while Towhid Hridoy was excellent in the middle overs, scoring 58 off 37 balls to guide his team to victory. Meanwhile, experienced pacer Mustafizur Rahman took 3 for 20 in his four overs, with an economy rate of 5.00.

So far in the tournament, Litton has scored 119 runs at an average of 29.75, with one fifty to his name. The wicketkeeper-batter is currently Bangladesh’s second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing Asia Cup, behind Hridoy.

It remains to be seen who will take over the captaincy if Litton gets ruled out, as Bangladesh have not named a vice-captain for the tournament.
