Kuldeep Yadav has been included in the Indian squad that has travelled to England for a five-match Test series. Whether he will feature in the playing eleven during the early part of the series depends on the team management — primarily because the Dukes ball and English conditions tend to favour pace bowlers over spinners.
Speaking recently to RevSportz, Kuldeep was asked about the adjustments he has made to his bowling. He explained: “Changes in terms of increasing the pace, cutting the angle, reading the batter, working on the length, and giving the batsman a challenging length. And this applies to all the formats.”
The left-arm wrist-spinner made his Test debut against Australia on 25 March 2017 and impressed on debut by taking four wickets in the first innings. However, since then, he has been in and out of the team and has not enjoyed a consistent run of opportunities.
So far in his Test career, Kuldeep has played 13 matches, claiming 56 wickets at an average of 22.16 and a strike rate of 37.3 — including four five-wicket hauls.
His recent form has been promising. He bowled well in the IPL for Delhi Capitals (DC), picking up 15 wickets in 14 matches.
Kuldeep has played just one Test in England, back in 2018, and on this tour he travels as the lone specialist spinner, with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar included as spin-bowling all-rounders.
