Former Team India skipper Sourav Ganguly has predicted that India might end up with four centurions in the first innings of the ongoing Leeds Test after Day One. India’s new era in Test cricket began on a strong note as they finished at 359/3 in 85 overs at the end of the first day of the opening Test against England. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a brilliant century (101 off 159), while skipper Shubman Gill (127* off 175) and his deputy Rishabh Pant (65* off 102) remained unbeaten at stumps.
Reacting to the performance, former India legend Sachin Tendulkar shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), referencing the historic 2002 Headingley Test where he, Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid each scored a century.
Hi Champ .. this time it could be 4 .. on this good surface .. pant and may be karun .. the surface on day 1 in 2002 .. was a bit different then this ..

Tendulkar wrote: “A solid foundation laid by @klrahul and @ybj_19 enabled India to have a good day. Congratulations to Yashasvi and @ShubmanGill for their brilliant centuries. @RishabhPant17’s contribution was equally important for the team. India’s batting today reminded me of the Headingley Test in 2002, when Rahul, @SGanguly99, and I scored hundreds in the first innings, and we went on to win the Test. Today, Yashasvi and Shubman have done their part. Who will be the third centurion this time?”
In reply, Ganguly suggested that India might go one better this time. He wrote: “Hi Champ .. this time it could be 4 .. on this good surface .. pant and may be karun .. the surface on day 1 in 2002 .. was a bit different then this ..”

Tendulkar responded with a fingers-crossed emoji. Their light-hearted exchange quickly went viral among fans on social media.
India won by an innings and 46 runs at Leeds in 2002
In that memorable 2002 Test at Headingley, India posted 628/8 declared in the first innings, thanks to Tendulkar’s 193, Dravid’s 148, and Ganguly’s 128. India went on to win the match by an innings and 46 runs.
Now, in the ongoing Test, Jaiswal has already scored a century, and Gill remains unbeaten on 127. Pant is looking well set to reach his hundred, and as Ganguly predicted, if Karun Nair—playing his comeback Test—can also score a century, India could indeed end up with four centurions in the innings.
