Cheteshwar Pujara has put himself in contention for India’s upcoming tour of England, which features five Test matches. This series will mark the beginning of India’s campaign in the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27. It also presents a major challenge as the team looks to end a long wait for a Test series win in England, their last coming in 2007.
India’s last red-ball series, against Australia, exposed their vulnerabilities—particularly in the batting department. Aside from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy, most batters struggled to deliver. In seaming conditions, the absence of an experienced campaigner like Pujara was keenly felt.
With the selection meeting for the England tour just around the corner, Pujara has made it clear that he is ready to step up if the opportunity arises.
Speaking exclusively to RevSportz, he said: “If the team needs me and the opportunity comes, I’m ready. I’ve been focusing on my fitness and performing consistently both at home and in domestic cricket. India have been competitive, but it’s been nearly two decades since we last won a series in England. If given the chance, I would give it everything.”
England remains one of the most challenging places for visiting batters, particularly with the Dukes ball offering movement throughout the innings. Pujara, who has scored 870 runs in 16 Tests in England, brings not only experience but also the stability at number three that India sorely lacked during the Australia series. If selected, it would mark his fourth tour of England, and he would be determined to make a decisive impact with the bat.
