India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, made it clear during a press conference on 5 June 2025 that Jasprit Bumrah will not feature in all five Test matches on India’s upcoming tour of England. Speaking about Bumrah, Gambhir explained that his participation will depend on how the series progresses. The team intends to manage his workload carefully to keep him fit for future tournaments. Gambhir emphasised that while Bumrah is a key player, India also has other match-winning fast bowlers who are capable of delivering strong performances.
“I know Jasprit Bumrah is quality, but apart from him, we have enough strength in our pace attack. We haven’t made a decision on which matches Bumrah will play – it depends on the results and we’ll discuss it with him,” said Gambhir during the press conference.
Young Indian Team Embarks on a New Test Era
The press conference, held in Mumbai, was addressed by Gambhir and new Test captain Shubman Gill ahead of the England tour. It marked the beginning of a new chapter for Indian Test cricket, with several experienced players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin stepping away from the red-ball format.
With a fresh leadership group in place, attention now turns to how this young team will rise to the expectations of fans and critics. Gill will lead the side as captain, with Rishabh Pant serving as vice-captain.
