India all-rounder Shardul Thakur reflected on one of his fondest memories—being part of the 2021 Test series between India and England. He recalled India’s victories at Lord’s and The Oval, and noted that they might have won the first Test as well had rain not intervened on the final day.
“I think the 2021 series, where we won a couple of games—the first one we could have won too, but unfortunately it rained on the final day and we couldn’t chase down the total. But then we won at Lord’s, we won at The Oval, and returned the next year for the fifth Test with the series level. That was one of my fondest memories—one of the best Test series I’ve been a part of. I think it’s very exciting to play in this part of the world, where you face different challenges.”
Shardul also spoke about the difficulty of playing in English conditions, especially due to the unpredictable weather, which can affect how the game is played.

“A few youngsters are coming through and new talent is always exciting.” – Shardul Thakur
“The first challenge, of course, is the weather—sometimes it’s cloudy, sometimes it’s bright and sunny. As a player, you have to make adjustments to your game, whether you’re batting or bowling.”
When asked about the relatively young Indian squad for the upcoming series, Shardul said the selected players were exciting talents and that England might be surprised by them. He also stressed the significance of winning overseas.
“It’s good to have that fresh energy in the team. A few youngsters are coming through and new talent is always exciting. Now that the England team is playing a different brand of cricket, it would be great to surprise them and show that we’re here to put on a show. Winning a series away from home is always special, and if we can achieve that, it would be massive for the entire nation, I feel.”
