Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull praised India’s veteran batter Virat Kohli and termed the 37-year-old as the ‘fittest guy’ in the team.
Doull said on JioHotstar, as quoted by Hindustan Times: “Some of the shots were just crisp and clean. Beyond that, it is how he maneuvers the field and how he runs between the wickets. There is still an air of youth about him. Despite his age and experience, he’d probably still be the fittest guy on that side. That is professionalism.”
Kohli tried hard to bring India back into the contest in the series decider of the three-match series in Indore. While wickets were tumbling at the other end, the Delhi-born batter stood firm at the crease and built two important partnerships with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana while scoring a century himself. However, his efforts went in vain.
Doull added: “The willingness to keep trying to win games, to drag your team back into the contest when they are so far behind, and to run as hard as he does, for his own runs and for his teammates. There’s so much to love about how he’s playing at the moment. May he stick around in international cricket until he’s 44 or 45 years old.”
Recently, Kohli has been going through a fantastic run of form. After getting out for two ducks in Australia, he hit five consecutive fifty-plus scores, which included two centuries. As a result, the right-handed batter is back at the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI batter rankings.
