India captain Suryakumar Yadav was pleased with the execution of the brand of cricket his team wanted to play in the first three T20Is of the five-match series. His remarks came after the Men in Blue registered an eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the third T20I in Guwahati.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar said:

“I think we’ve spoken about this. This is the brand of cricket we want to play, irrespective of whether we are batting first or chasing. Of course, for example, if we are 20 for 3 or 40 for 4 tomorrow, we know how to bat. But if you want to play a different brand of cricket, I think this is the best way going forward. And what do I say about the top two or three batters? They made my job very easy.”

After winning the toss, India sent New Zealand in to bat first. The hosts were able to restrict the Kiwis to 153 for 9 in their 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah (3/17) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/18) were the star performers with the ball for India.

In reply, Abhishek Sharma played a blinder, scoring an unbeaten 68 off 20 balls. Suryakumar was not too far behind, as he scored an unbeaten 57 off 26 balls. These two breathtaking innings guided India to victory with 10 overs to spare.

Suryakumar also praised Bishnoi, who was making a comeback to the side after a long time, saying:

“I think his plans are pretty clear. He knows his strong points and he knows his bowling really well. Whenever the chips are down, whenever the team is under pressure, he’s always delivered. So it’s very good to have him in the side. And it was a good rest for Varun as well, so yeah.”
