After Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the win to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and their families, head coach Gautam Gambhir echoed the same sentiment following India’s emphatic victory over Pakistan, securing their second win of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 by seven wickets.

At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India didn’t just win — they sent a strong message. No member of the Indian team shook hands or interacted with the Pakistani players after the match. While much has been debated since then about the perceived lack of sportsmanship from India, the team maintained a clear stance, and Gambhir underlined the significance of the win against their arch-rivals.

“Good win. There is still a lot of cricket left in this tournament. This match was important as we wanted to show solidarity with the victims and their families, and acknowledge what they went through during the Pahalgam attack. More importantly, we want to thank the Indian Army for their successful Operation Sindoor. We will try to make our country proud and happy,” Gambhir told to the broadcasters.

During the post-match presentation and the press conference, captain Suryakumar — who turned 35 yesterday — made it clear that some things are above sportsmanship. He said this in reference to his team’s decision not to engage in the customary handshake with the opposition after the match.

As far as the match itself is concerned, India first restricted Pakistan to a below-par total of 127/9, courtesy of another masterful spell from Kuldeep Yadav, who was well supported by the other bowlers. India chased down the target in just 15.5 overs. As soon as Surya hit the winning runs, he, along with Shivam Dube, headed straight to the dressing room.
