IND vs SA: Jadeja joins Kapil Dev, completes elite double of 4000 runs and 300 Test wickets

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja added another feather to his Test cap as he completed the double of 4000 runs and 300 wickets. He became the fourth player in the history of red-ball cricket to achieve this feat. The left-hander reached the milestone during the ongoing first Test of the two-match series against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Legendary Kapil Dev was the first Indian to achieve this double. Jadeja, who needed just 10 runs to reach the 4000-run mark, completed it on Day 2 of the Test.

Kapil Dev (India) – 5248 runs, 434 wickets

Ian Botham (England) – 5200 runs, 383 wickets

Daniel Vettori (New Zealand) – 4531 runs, 362 wickets

Ravindra Jadeja (India) – 4000 runs, 338 wickets

He achieved the feat in 88 matches, becoming the second-fastest player to do so. Ian Botham reached the milestone in just 72 matches.

The No. 1 Test all-rounder was excellent with the ball in South Africa’s second innings, taking four of the seven wickets that fell on the second day.

Overall, Jadeja has played 88 Test matches, scoring 4017 runs at an average close to 39 and claiming 342 wickets.
