Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah added another special record to his career by becoming the first Indian fast bowler to take 100 wickets in all three international formats. He reached the record during the T20I series opener against South Africa in Cuttack on December 9.
Bumrah’s achievement came when he picked up his 100th T20I wicket, completing a big milestone. Other than him, only four bowlers in world cricket have managed to reach this record. Tim Southee, Lasith Malinga, Shakib Al Hasan and Shaheen Shah Afridi are the only players with 100 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He dismissed Dewald Brevis on the second delivery of the 11th over, which was his 100th wicket in the T20I format. Bumrah now has 101 T20I wickets, 149 ODI wickets and 234 Test wickets.
In the match, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first. They took early wickets, which left India at 78 for four. Hardik Pandya came in at number six and stabilised the innings with an undefeated 59 off 28 balls. His innings included six boundaries and four maximums at a strike rate of 210.71, which helped India post a decent total of 175/6. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi was the key bowler with three wickets, and Lutho Sipamla also took two crucial wickets.
While chasing, South Africa lost quick wickets and the whole team was bowled out for just 74 runs. Arshdeep Singh, Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel all picked up two wickets each. On the other hand, Pandya and Shivam Dube also managed to get one wicket each, which helped India win by a huge margin of 101 runs.
The second T20I will be played in New Chandigarh on December 11.
