India captain Suryakumar Yadav once again failed with the bat, scoring just 12 runs in a run chase of 118 in the third T20I of the five-match series in Dharamsala. It was his 20th innings this year without a single fifty.
Under his captaincy, the team has been doing well, but his form with the bat remains a major area of concern for the Men in Blue.
When asked about his own batting form, the 35-year-old said during the post-match presentation: “The thing is, I’ve been batting beautifully in the nets. I’m trying everything that’s in my control. And when the game comes, when the runs have to come, they’ll definitely come. But yes, I’m looking for runs — not out of form, but definitely out of runs.”
Coming to the match, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets to take a 2–1 lead in the series. The Indian bowlers kept the South African batters quiet from the beginning, with everyone contributing wickets. South Africa were bundled out for 117, with only Aiden Markram standing out, scoring 61. India chased the target comfortably with 25 balls to spare.
“I think this sport teaches you a lot of things. How you come back into the series is more important, and we did the same thing. We wanted to go back to basics and do the same things we were doing in Cuttack, and the results were on our side. There was a lot of learning from the game we played in Chandigarh. The bowlers sat together and we had a good team meeting as well. We came for practice sessions and tried to do the same things we did in Cuttack,” Surya added.
