Indian opener Abhishek Sharma continues to shine in the Asia Cup. He became the first player to score more than 300 runs in a single edition of the T20 version of the tournament.
After the innings against Sri Lanka, he went past Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, who held the previous record of 281 runs made in 2022.
The 24–year-old is in great form and he has now matched Rohit Sharma and Rizwan’s record of seven successive 30–plus scores in T20Is.
In the final Super Four clash, Abhishek scored 61 runs from 31 balls, which included eight boundaries and two maximums, at a strike rate of 196.77. It was also his sixth fifty made in25 or fewer deliveries. This is explosive batting. He lost his wicket to CharithAsalanka, in the ninth over.
India’s middle–order carried the momentum as Tilak Varma played an undefeated knock of 49runs off 34 balls, and Sanju Samson added 39 runs from 23 balls. In the end, Axar Patel added the finishing touch, as he smashed a six on the final ball which took India above the 200 mark.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept giving away runs, as Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Dasun Shanaka, and Charith Asalanka all struggled.
India’s 202/5 was the first total above 200 in Asia Cup 2025.
