Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed disappointment with Harshit Rana’s performance against Sri Lanka in the final match of the Super Four stage. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin described the errors committed by Harshit as ‘amateurish’.

“I just want to speak about Harshit Rana,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. “He has played a few games, and he hasn’t played a few. It’s not easy to play one match and then sit out. It can really dent your confidence and make you a bit rusty. But the mistakes Harshit made against Sri Lanka were truly amateurish.”

Harshit has played 10 matches across formats for India. In Friday’s match against Sri Lanka, he conceded 54 runs in four overs at an economy rate of 13.50 and took only one wicket. Ashwin highlighted how Harshit’s predictable bowling allowed the opposition to take advantage.

“Harshit Rana was cranking up the speed. He hit him on the head and then followed it up with a slower ball. Nissanka played it beautifully. Harshit Rana was just alternating between fast deliveries and slower balls. One fast, one slow, and so on. That’s a really amateurish way of playing cricket. He really needs to learn from this,” he added.

Despite conceding 43 runs in his first three overs, Harshit was given the responsibility of bowling the final over. Sri Lanka needed 12 runs to win, but Harshit conceded only 11, taking the match to a Super Over, which India eventually won.
