India spinner Kuldeep Yadav reflected on his bowling performance against the UAE in the second match of the Asia Cup 2025, played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 11 September.

Playing in his first T20I in over a year, Kuldeep tore through the UAE batting line-up to finish with outstanding bowling figures of 4 for 7 in just 2.1 overs.

He outshone the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy and Shivam Dube, who each claimed three wickets.

Kuldeep had been in England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but did not play a match. Before arriving in the UAE, he had played just one game — a Duleep Trophy match in Bengaluru for Central Zone. However, he showed no signs of rustiness.

“It was tough for me (not playing). I was working on my bowling and my fitness as well, and everything went perfectly (tonight). The length matters a lot — reading the batters. Especially in this format, length is the main thing, along with understanding what the batters are trying to do and reacting accordingly,” Kuldeep said after winning the Player of the Match award.

Courtesy of Kuldeep’s spell, India managed to restrict the UAE to just 57 runs — a total they chased down in under five overs. Abhishek Sharma started with a six, went on a rampage, and scored a quickfire 30. His new opening partner, Shubman Gill, playing a T20I after a long hiatus, remained unbeaten on 20 to see India through.
