India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has credited head coach Gautam Gambhir for his improvement with the bat. After India defeated the West Indies in the second Test to seal the series 2–0, Jadeja said that Gambhir has helped change his mindset as a batter.
“As Gauti bhai (Gambhir) said, I am at number six now,” he said at the post-match presentation ceremony. “So I am thinking more like a proper batsman, and that works for me. In the past, for many years, I was batting at number eight or nine, so my mindset was a little different from what it is now.”
Jadeja’s batting has been making headlines over the past few months. The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten century in the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Before that, he had a phenomenal series in England, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 516 runs in five matches at an average of 86.00.
The number-one-ranked Test all-rounder further said that his main focus is to contribute to the best of his abilities to help the team win.
“We’ve been doing wonderful work as a team, in both batting and bowling. I am just trying to spend more time in the middle whenever I get the chance to bat. To be honest, I don’t think too much about records. I just focus on contributing with both bat and ball to help my team win. I always look forward to doing that. I feel that if I don’t perform with both bat and ball, it doesn’t reflect my value as a player,” he added.
