A confusing moment occurred on Day 3 of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The Indian players mistakenly thought that the first session of the day had ended and began walking back to the dressing room for lunch, causing brief confusion on the field. On-field umpire Richard Illingworth quickly called them back and instructed them to bowl one final over before the break.
The confusion arose right after the 71st over of West Indies’ first innings. The bails were removed, commentators assumed it was lunch, and even umpire Illingworth appeared to be heading towards the dressing room, adding to the misunderstanding on the field. It was later revealed that Indian batter KL Rahul had cheekily removed the bails. The players then returned to their positions, with Ravindra Jadeja finishing the over. At the end of 72 overs, West Indies had reached 217 for the loss of eight wickets. Khary Pierre and Anderson Phillip were both on 19 runs at the crease when the break was eventually announced.
Meanwhile, India dominated the morning session with the ball, taking four wickets in 34 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, claiming a five-wicket haul, including the dismissals of Alick Athanaze, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Justin Greaves, and Jayden Seales. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with three crucial wickets, as West Indies continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 248 in their first innings. India enforced the follow-on, and the West Indies came out to bat again on Day 3. However, by the end of the second session, they had already lost two wickets.
