
West Indies captain Roston Chase focussed on the positives after his team’s loss in the second Test against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The win sealed a 2-0series win for the hosts.
Despite India winning by seven wickets, Chase said that histeam took valuable lessons from the match and showed signs of improvement. During the post-match presentation he said, “Two guys getting hundreds. We batted 100 overs, first time in a long time. And taking the game to the fifth day.”
Chase was happy with the team’s determination and performance. John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103) both smashed centuries during the second innings, which showedimprovement in the their ability to build partnerships and apply patience in unfamiliar subcontinent conditions.
Chase also discussed the tactical adjustments his team made to handle India’s spinners. “We were trying to find ways to bat 80 overs, came up with ideas to play spin – using feet, sweeping, to get there,” he said. “We have some of the best players, we have to use experience from here as a stepping stone and do well going forward.”
The captain highlighted the need to carry forward the confidence and experience gained from this performance into future matches.
On an individual level, Chase had a mixed outing during the match. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but managed to take a crucial wicket. During the second innings, he contributed 40 runs and also took two wickets.
