On the first day of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the West Indies team are wearing black armbands in memory of the late Bernard Julien.
Julien, who was part of the West Indies team that won the 1975 World Cup, passed away last week at the age of 75 in northern Trinidad. The all-rounder played an important role in that successful World Cup campaign. He was named Player of the Match in a group-stage game against Sri Lanka for taking four wickets for 20 runs in his 12 overs.
The Trinidadian took another four-wicket haul against New Zealand in the semi-final. With the bat, he scored 26 runs off 37 balls, and in the final against Australia, he contributed with two wickets.
Overall, he played 24 Test matches in his career, taking 50 wickets and scoring 866 runs at an average of 30.92, which included two centuries and three fifties, with a highest score of 121. He also played 12 ODIs, scoring 86 runs and taking 18 wickets. His career came to an end after he received a life ban for joining the rebel West Indies side that toured South Africa in 1982.
As for the ongoing match in Delhi, India won the toss and elected to bat. In the first session, India scored 94 for the loss of one wicket in 28 overs. KL Rahul was dismissed by Jomel Warrican for 38. Yashasvi Jaiswal (40*) and Sai Sudharsan (16*) will resume after lunch.
