The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has reportedly informed the BCCI that the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will not be able to host the Indian Women’s three-match ODI series against Australia in September. The decision comes due to ongoing plans to relay the entire outfield at the historic stadium, which cannot be delayed.
TNCA Prioritises Outfield Renovation Over Hosting Women’s Series
As reported by The New Indian Express, TNCA had planned to begin relaying the outfield in June. The work is expected to take four to five months to complete. Since the stadium’s outfield has not been fully relaid in decades, this renovation is seen as essential to prepare the venue for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Due to the scale of the work, TNCA has confirmed that the stadium will not be ready in time for any series in September, including the scheduled white-ball matches.
Earlier, the BCCI had announced that the three-match women’s ODI series against Australia would take place at Chepauk from September 14 to 20. Now, a new venue will have to be decided for the series.
The TNCA has informed the BCCI that Chepauk won’t be able to host India women’s ODI series against Australia in September because of outfield work.
