England secured a thrilling four-run victory over India to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. At the post-match presentation, England’s captain Nat Sciver-Brunt praised her team for showing patience and fighting spirit to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

“So, so happy. I think everyone just showed how calm they were and how clear they were on what they wanted to do. I think we knew throughout the bowling innings that we really needed to stick in,” she said. “A partnership obviously developed between Harman and Smriti, and they looked like they were going to chase it down easily, but I think we knew that if we could get a wicket at one end, we could really put them under pressure.”

Heather Knight played a match-winning knock of 109 off just 91 balls, including 15 fours and a six. Sciver-Brunt praised Knight’s innings and also highlighted Charlie Dean’s cameo in the death overs, when India were bowling particularly well, which helped England finish on 288/8.

“That innings from Heather was special – just the use of her sweeps and reverse sweeps made it so difficult for them. And she showed some brilliant intent throughout. I thought we could have scored more runs; we probably messed up the last 5–6 overs. But yes, crucial runs also came from Charlie, who is looking pretty confident with the bat in hand,” she added.

Next, England will face arch-rivals Australia, who currently sit at the top of the points table, on October 22.
