
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for women has announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the squad, and Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy.
This series will also mark India’s return to international cricket after their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup win in Navi Mumbai on November 2.
The team consists of regular performers like Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma, along with all-rounders Amanjot Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, and Sneh Rana. N. Sree Charani along with Kranti Gaud, and Renuka Singh Thakur, will strengthen the bowling attack.Vaishnavi Sharma is another spinner to look out for. The wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Richa Ghosh and G. Kamalini.
Both G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma have earned their maiden call-up to Team India. They have been consistent in their respective departments throughout domestic tournaments over the last year.
India last played a T20I series against England in July, where they won 3-2. Charani was named Player of the Series during that outing.
The matches of this series will be played at two venues – ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam and Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The first two matches will be played in Visakhapatnam on December 21 and 23. The series will then move to Thiruvananthapuram for games on December 26, 28, and 30.
After the Sri Lanka series, the players will feature in the fourth season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), starting January 9 in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara.
