Despite missing out on the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time, India has secured a substantial payout of USD 1.44 million (approximately ₹12.32 crore) for finishing third in the 2023–25 WTC cycle. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday a record prize pool of USD 5.76 million, which is more than double the prize money distributed in each of the previous two cycles.

Australia and South Africa, the two finalists of this edition, are set to battle it out at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to 15, with June 16 reserved as a buffer day. The winning team will walk away with USD 3.6 million (₹30.60 crore approx), while the runner-up will earn USD 2.16 million (₹18.48 crore approx).

Jay Shah calls the WTC final a “true celebration of cricket.”

India, led by Rohit Sharma, ended the cycle with a win-loss record of 9–8 and two draws from 19 matches, finishing with a percentage point tally of 50.00. South Africa topped the standings with 69.44 percentage points, closely followed by Australia at 67.54.

South Africa’s qualification came on the back of dominant series wins over Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, along with a drawn series in India. Australia also had a strong campaign, registering series wins both at home and away, including a sweep against Pakistan and victories over Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Jay Shah praised the fierce competition and increased prize pool, calling the WTC final a “true celebration of cricket.” Fans can expect a thrilling contest as the two best Test teams face off in June for the title.
