Shubman Gill, India opening batter, provided an update on Hardik Pandya’s ankle injury after India’s thumping seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Pune. He said official intimation was expected on Friday morning.
“Hardik Pandya was taken for a scan and the results are awaited,” said Gill at the post-match press conference. “He is with the team as the medical team is assessing him. More official update expected on Friday morning.”
Pandya sustained an ankle injury while attempting to stop a boundary. The incident occurred when he was bowling, and he landed awkwardly while trying to prevent the ball from going for four.
Immediately after the incident, it was evident that Pandya was in acute discomfort, and his ankle was subsequently strapped before he left the field. Following this, he was sent for scans, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
At the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma, the India captain, also provided information about Pandya’s condition. He mentioned that there was nothing major to worry about, and that Pandya’s condition would be assessed in the morning.
The initial scans and medical assessments appear to indicate that there is no major injury. However, official confirmation is pending, and will be available only once the report is prepared and shared with the team.
India’s next game is scheduled for Sunday (October 22), against New Zealand, who currently top the table on net run rate and are the only other unbeaten side in the competition. Pandya’s availability for that is in the balance, with the team management unlikely to take any risks.
