India concluded their campaign at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, South Korea, with a strong overall performance, finishing second in the medals tally. The Indian contingent secured a total of 24 medals, which included 8 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze medals.
China with 32 medals finished ahead of India in the medal charts.
On the final day of the event, India added six more medals to their tallly, 3 silver and 3 bronze. However, the team couldn’t clinch any gold on the last day.
The highlight of the final day was men’s javelin throw. In the men’s final, India’s second-best thrower after Neeraj Chopra, Sachin Yadav, delivered a good performance, clinching the silver medal with a personal best of 85.16m. It was Sachin’s debut international event, and he made it memorable by securing his maiden international medal. Unfortunately, he missed the direct qualification mark for the World Athletics Championships by just 0.34m.
The field of the final was tight with Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, along with strong contenders from Japan and Sri Lanka, in the fray. Sachin overcame the challenges from the Japanese and Sri Lankan athletes to finish second, while Nadeem, the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist, took the gold with a throw of 86.40m. Japan’s Sakiyama claimed the bronze with a throw of 83.75m. Another Indian javelin thrower, Yash Vir Singh, also reached the finals and finished fifth with a personal best throw of 82.57m.
