India vs England – Lucknow, October 29
Situated on the banks of Gomti river, Lucknow is the hallowed capital of Uttar Pradesh and known for its cultural heritage, cuisine and clothes. The city’s architecture, with Mughal, Persian and Turkish influences, has led to it being called the Constantinople of the East. It was the venue of the Siege of Lucknow, a six-month long stand-off between the British troops and Indian revolutionaries, during the First War of Independence in 1857.

After IPL 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association is said to have started work to ensure that the pitches are not low and slow. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was disappointed with the nature of the pitch during the T20 International against New Zealand, and hastened a repair job ahead of the IPL without much success.
Trivia: Indian teams have not tasted victory against England in World Cup matches on Indian soil. India lost the semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in the 1987, and had to settle for a tie in the group-stage game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2011.
