Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody believes that India currently have a pool of talented players who can break into the side at any time.

Speaking on Jio HotStar, Moody said that having plenty of talented players is a good problem to have; however, for the team management, it can sometimes create challenges.

“One of the issues with Indian cricket is that there is too much talent,” he said. “There are simply too many options. It’s a wonderful problem to have, but it becomes a nightmare for a selector or a captain.”

Team India recently announced their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup. Axar Patel was named deputy to Suryakumar Yadav. Ishan Kishan earned a surprise recall to the team in place of Jitesh Sharma, who had played three bilateral series since the Asia Cup. Kishan returned on the back of a series of strong performances. The southpaw was the leading run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, amassing 517 runs from 10 matches at an average of 57.44.

Flamboyant opener Abhishek Sharma is in excellent form, having finished 2025 with 859 runs from 21 matches at an average of 42.95. Sanju Samson, who struck three centuries last year, had to vacate his opening spot for Shubman Gill, but is expected to open again in the World Cup.

India also have Tilak Varma in the batting line-up, who was the hero of the Asia Cup 2025 final. In addition, they have four all-rounders, adding depth to the squad.

The pace attack is led by Jasprit Bumrah, while in the spin department, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav have been lethal in recent times.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team will open their campaign against the USA on February 7.
