A senior Indian delegation wrapped up a significant visit to Lausanne, known as the Olympic Capital, by participating in the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) “Continuous Dialogue” initiative. The goal of this engagement was to assess the potential and practicality of India hosting a future edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The delegation was led by Gujarat’s Hon’ble Minister of Sports, Shri Harsh Sanghavi, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha. Senior representatives from the IOA, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Government of Gujarat were also part of the group.
These meetings served as a key opportunity for India to outline its vision for hosting the Olympics in Amdavad, while also gaining essential input from the IOC on the standards, expectations, and long-term goals of the Olympic Movement.
The dialogue is set to further refine India’s aspirations, which are in line with the broader national development roadmap, Viksit Bharat 2047, highlighting India’s path to future progress.
Amdavad’s Olympic plan is built on three central ideas. First, it aims to inspire a generation by bringing the Games to home soil, reaching over 600 million young Indians. Second, the event is envisioned as a driver of growth across innovation, education, and social development—benefitting both India and the wider Olympic Movement. Lastly, the proposal embraces the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, or “The world is one family,” intending to welcome the global community with open arms.
At the end of the discussions, Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Honorable Minister of Sports, State of Gujarat, said: “Gujarat, with its rich history and dynamic spirit, is poised to once again contribute significantly to India’s development. Our investments in sport and our commitment to the Olympic Movement are a testament to this. Hosting the Games would be a monumental step for Gujarat, fostering unprecedented growth and inspiring a new generation. We are eager to be a true partner to the IOC in the coming months of this process and, hopefully, in the years to come, as we work together to realize this shared ambition.”
Echoing this sentiment, IOA President PT Usha remarked: “India’s engagement with the Olympic Movement is at a transformative moment, one that goes beyond competitive sports to embrace the true spirit of Olympism – that is promoting peace, education and cultural exchange through sports. The Olympic Games in India would not just be a spectacular event, they would be one of generational impact for all Indians.”
