Indian athletes to go ethnic at Olympics opening ceremony

The official dress for male and female athletes who will represent India at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on July 26 will have an ethnic touch.

Sources confirmed to RevSportz on Tuesday that the women athletes would be back in sarees and smart blouses. What will stand out is the India tricolour on the outfit. Earlier, there was a plan to go in for trousers for the ladies, but that has been changed. All those incharge of the dress ideation for Indians appearing at the march-past wanted the athletes to look smart, with the essence of Indiacaptured in the outfits. The effort is to make it stand out when the opening ceremony takes place along the Seine river. Of course, subject to security, the opening ceremony could be even shifted to a stadium.

There will be no hassle in wearing the saree as it will be pre-stitched like a dress. In the past, some athletes not familiar with tying the saree had struggled.

As regards the male athletes, they will be in a bandhi jacket and matching smart trousers. In the past, blazers were sported but those have been thrown out.

RevSportz can confirm that this dress code has been approved at all levels so that the cultural ethos can be captured. This has been confirmed by officials as well.

In the past, at the Olympics opening ceremony, head turbans were in vogue. That has been done away with.

RevSportz has been given to understand that the shoes will also be quite trendy.
