Asian Games bronze medallist Chain Singh delivered a mixed performance, finishing seventh in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final at the ISSF World Cup in Munich on Wednesday. Despite a strong comeback mid-contest, his final tally of 407.0 wasn’t enough to keep him in medal contention.
Singh started sluggishly, posting 100.4 in the first 10 shots and sitting seventh. He clawed back to fifth with a 152.1 in the kneeling position and reached 308.3 after the prone series. However, a poorly-timed 8.5 in the standing round derailed his momentum and ultimately cost him a podium finish.
This was a step down from his bronze-medal showing at the Buenos Aires World Cup earlier this year, where he scored 443.7.
Norway’s Jon-Hermann Hegg claimed the gold with a stellar 464.1. Competing as a neutral athlete, Ilia Marsov secured silver (462.0), while Czech shooter Jiri Privratsky took bronze with 452.0.
In the qualification round, India’s Niraj Kumar (591) and Akhil Sheoran (589), both competing as ranking points only (RPO) entries, placed 12th and 27th respectively.
Paris 2024 bronze medalist Swapnil Kusale endured a forgettable outing, managing only 587 to finish 38th and missing the final. Ankush Jadhav ended near the bottom of the table in 67th place with 580.
