The anticipated tour of Afghanistan’s cricket team to India during the month of June is shrouded in uncertainty as the proposed white-ball series teeters on the edge of potential cancellation.
A report in Cricbuzz states that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is struggling with the task of organizing the three-match ODI series, primarily due to the restricted time frame between the World Test Championship final and a comprehensive series scheduled in the Caribbean.
Initially, the plan revolved around hosting the three ODIs from June 20 to 30, with the team’s departure for the Caribbean set for July 7. However, the impending confirmation of the Asia Cup schedule in September has introduced further complexities into the equation.
Insiders within the BCCI disclose that proceeding with the Afghanistan series as per the original plan would deprive players of much-needed rest ahead of the crucial World Cup slated for October-November.
Nonetheless, the final verdict on the tour hangs in the balance at this stage, awaiting the possibility of a change of stance at the eleventh hour. The decision-makers are yet to arrive at a definitive decision, leaving room for speculation and uncertainty regarding the fate of the tour.
