Indonesia Open 2025 – Day 2: Men’s Singles Campaign Over for India, Sathish-Aadya Pull Off Upset, Treesa-Gayatri Advance

It was another mixed day for India at the Indonesia Open 2025.

In the mixed doubles, Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath pulled off an upset to advance to the next round. However, the other Indian pairs – Dhruv/Tanisha, Surya/Amrutha and Rohan/Ruthvika bowed out in the Round of 32.

In women’s doubles, India’s No.1 pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand progressed to the next round. Meanwhile, in men’s singles Kiran George couldn’t get past former world champion Loh Kean Yew.

A total of seven Indian singles players across both men’s and women’s categories competed at the Indonesia Open 2025 (Super 1000).

In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Kiran George featured, while the women’s section had PV Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, Anupama Upadhyay, and Rakshitha Ramraj. Barring PV Sindhu, who managed to advance, all the other Indian singles players crashed out in the opening round.

Men Singles: Kiran George bows out

Kiran George was the only Indian men’s singles shuttler in action today. With HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen exiting on Tuesday in the opening round, Kiran’s loss today in the opening round marked the end of India’s men’s singles campaign in the tournament.

Kiran went down to Loh in straight games, 20-22, 9-21. He put up a good fight in the first game, which was very close, but lost it 20-22. In the second game, Loh was completely dominant and won 21-9 to finish the match.

Women’s Doubles: Treesa-Gayatri cruise into the Last 16

India’s No.1 women’s doubles pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated the Ukrainian duo of Buhrova and Kantemyr in straight games, winning 21-14, 22-20 to advance to the Round of 16.

Mixed Doubles: Sathish and Aadya Advance, Others Fall Short

Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath produced some magic on court today. After losing the first game, they bounced back to defeat the Taiwanese pair of Ye Hong Wei and Nichole Gonzales Chan 15-21, 21-16, 21-17.

The Taiwanese duo, currently ranked 16th in the world, had been in fine form, reaching the semifinals in their last two tournaments. This impressive win will surely boost the morale of the Sathish and Aadya, who are now the only mixed pair from India side to reach the Round of 16.

Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost to the World No. 4 duo of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei 11-21, 21-16, 14-21. The Malaysian pair, seeded second in the mixed doubles category, dominated the first game, winning it 21-11. In the second game, the Indian pair staged a comeback and won. However, the Malaysians regained control in the decider and sealed the match.

Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh lost to Denmark’s mixed doubles pair Mats Vestergaard and Christine Busch 15-21, 9-21 in the Round of 32.

Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde also couldn’t advance, falling to Japan’s Shimogami and Hobara in straight games, 14-21, 9-21.
