The former World No. 1 duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out of the Indonesia Open 2025 after a loss in the quarter-final against World No. 7 pair Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun of Malaysia on Friday.
Satwik and Chirag went down 19-21, 16-21 in straight games in a 43-minute contest. Chong and Wun registered their first-ever win over the Indian pair in five head-to-head meetings.
In the opening game, Satwik and Chirag put up a strong fight in a neck and neck battle with both pairs exchanging points throughout. The Indian pair was trailing 17-19 but managed to level the score at 19-19, giving themselves a chance to take the lead. However, the Malaysian duo held their nerve and won the next two points to close out the game 21-19.
The second game saw Sat-Chi looking slightly off rhythm at the start, committing a few unforced errors at the net. They trailed 5-11 at the mid-game interval but mounted a late comeback to close the gap to 16-17. Despite the effort, it wasn’t enough to force a decider, as the Malaysians maintained their composure and sealed the game 21-16 and the match in straight sets.
With the loss of Satwik and Chirag, India’s campaign at the Indonesia Open (Super 1000) came to an end. They didn’t look in great shape today, struggling with their returns and serves. They looked poor in anticipation during defence and committed several unforced errors.
