Debasis Sen in Liverpool
Earlier this weekend, Debasis Sen and RevSportz journeyed to Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club, reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions and six-time winners of the UEFA Champions League. He found a huge number of tributes to Diogo Jota from all across the world and also soaked in the atmosphere at one of football’s most storied institutions. From the Bill Shankly statue to the poignant Hillsborough Memorial, and the Jota shirt still hanging in the home dressing room, we take you on a pictorial journey.
Bill Shankly – the architect of modern-day Liverpool Football Club. “He made the people happy,” says the statue.
The Hillsborough Memorial, for the 96 (now 97) who died as a result of a fatal crush at the FA Cup semi final on April 15, 1989.
Jon-Paul Gilhooley, the youngest victim, was the older cousin of Steven Gerrard, who would go on to become Liverpool captain and legend.
One of the many thousands of tributes left by fans of all nationalities and club allegiances in the wake of Diogo Jota’s tragic death on July 3, 2025.
The inner sanctum – the home dressing room at Anfield. The EPL champions will be back in action in a few weeks’ time.
Diogo Jota’s No. 20 shirt has now been retired by the club. But it still hangs in the dressing room to illustrate just what an important and loved member of the group he was.
Respect knows no badge – Cristiano Ronaldo’s No. 7 Manchester United shirt can be found in the away dressing room.
Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 Barcelona jersey also has pride of place in the away dressing room. Messi was on the losing side as Liverpool completed one of the great comebacks in sporting history with a 4-0 demolition of Barcelona in May 2019.
What Shankly did in the 1960s, Jurgen Klopp did a decade ago, dragging Liverpool from mediocrity back to the pinnacle of the English game. He remains a revered figure at Anfield.
England’s most successful football club have won the European Cup/Champions League six times, twice as many as any other side in the country. The last success came under Klopp in 2019.
