The IPL 2025 is set to resume on 17th May with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru. Earlier, the tournament was suspended due to tensions between India and Pakistan.
However, according to reports, three England players — Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton, and Sam Curran — are unlikely to return for the remainder of the tournament.
Here are the three England players who are unlikely to return for the remainder of IPL 2025:
Sam Curran, Jamie Overton (Chennai Super Kings)
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have confirmed to Cricbuzz that Curran and Overton are not returning for the remainder of the IPL, and the franchise is not planning to sign any new players in their place. It should be mentioned that the IPL has tweaked its player replacement policy for the remainder of the season to help the franchises.
Sam Curran has played five matches and scored 114 runs, with a highest score of 88, at an average of 22.80 and a strike rate of 135.71. His performance with the ball was also not up to the mark, as he took only one wicket. Overton played three matches, scored 15 runs, and failed to take a single wicket.
Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals)
As quoted in Cricbuzz, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have confirmed that Jofra Archer is not returning due to an injury, and not for any other reason. An RR official said: “It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for playoffs. He is nurturing an injury and we are prioritizing his fitness.”
Archer started the IPL in poor form but regained his rhythm in the middle stages of the tournament and has taken 11 wickets from 12 matches.
