Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have qualified for IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 after chasing down a massive 228-run target against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Skipper Jitesh Sharma’s unbeaten 85 helped RCB seal a six-wicket victory, keeping their dream of a maiden title alive.

While RCB bowlers conceded 227 runs, former RCB star AB de Villiers was not pleased with how the commentary team handled the situation. Speaking on his YouTube show ABD 360, he said the focus was too negative and lacked proper context.

“I listened to the commentators last night and honestly, it got me so angry. They were so negative when we were bowling. They kept saying, ‘RCB’s bowling is under pressure. They don’t look like they’re going to manage it,” de Villiers said.

RCB needed a win to finish in the top two for the first time in nine years, and they did it in style. Virat Kohli (54 off 30) and Phil Salt (30 off 19) gave them a strong start, adding 61 runs in the powerplay. Later, Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal (41 runs) completed the victory with a solid partnership.

De Villiers didn’t hold back in calling out the commentary team. “To all you very clever and sharp commentators out there, how about considering the possibility that it was an excellent surface for batting? They went on about how RCB’s bowling unit was once again in poor form,” De Villiers said.

He added, “Sometimes commentators get fixated on a narrative. Yes, RCB have never won a title, but it’s lazy to keep saying, ‘Here we go again. The bowlers are failing, they’re useless,’ without properly analysing what’s happening on the field.”
