The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to honour the Indian armed forces with a special tribute during the closing ceremony of the IPL 2025. This gesture is meant to honour their courage and the successful execution of Operation Sindoor.

This military operation was launched in response to the tragic attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Following heightened tensions across the border, the IPL was briefly suspended, only resuming after a ceasefire agreement was established between India and Pakistan.

Since the tournament’s restart, BCCI has consistently paid homage to the armed forces, displaying tribute banners at all venues. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) also joined in, showcasing a large tribute on the clubhouse at Eden Gardens.

To mark the occasion, the BCCI has extended special invitations to the heads of all three branches of the Indian military. General Upendra Dwivedi (Army Chief), Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi (Navy Chief), and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh (Air Force Chief) have been invited to attend the final in Ahmedabad.

BCCI to celebrate the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’

“We’ve invited senior officers, service chiefs, and soldiers to attend the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad as part of our celebration of Operation Sindoor,” said BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia in a statement to PTI.

“As a gesture of respect, we’re dedicating this year’s closing ceremony to the armed forces. While cricket unites the nation, nothing stands above the sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country,” he added.

The IPL 2025 final — along with the tribute-filled closing ceremony — is scheduled to take place on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
