IPL 2025: Devdutt Padikkal Eye First Home Win as “Chinnaswamy Curse” Lingers

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been in impressive form this IPL 2025 season, winning five of their eight matches so far. However, all three of their defeats have come at home, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where they’ve batted first on each occasion.

Their home campaign began with a loss to Gujarat Titans, where Jos Buttler steered the chase. That was followed by KL Rahul anchoring a successful run chase for Delhi Capitals, and Nehal Wadhera doing the same for Mumbai Indians. The common thread? RCB batted first each time and failed to defend the total.

Chinnaswamy deserves some wins too: Padikkal

This string of defeats at home has sparked talk of a “Chinnaswamy curse,” whether it be due to a mental block, misreading conditions, or just sheer coincidence.

“To be honest, I think it’s just coincidence that our (five) wins have come away from home. But we’ve played some really good cricket throughout the tournament. We’ve gelled well as a unit, and that shows. Each time we lose, we bounce back quickly. It’s important we carry this momentum and find a way to win at home. The Chinnaswamy deserves some wins too,” said Devdutt Padikkal after the win over PBKS in the post-match press conference.

Interestingly, a 200 plus total, a regular feature in past seasons at Bengaluru, is yet to be seen this year. Head coach Andy Flower has even described the surface as “untypical” for Chinnaswamy, indicating a shift in playing conditions.

RCB will look to finally break their home jinx when they face a struggling Rajasthan Royals side on April 24.
