In the Eliminator of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) faced Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-stakes encounter. Opening the innings for MI, Jonny Bairstow gave his team a flying start with a brilliant 47 off just 22 balls. The wicket-keeper batter’s explosive innings included four boundaries and three sixes, at a superb strike rate of 213.64, setting the tone for a competitive total.

Bairstow was recently signed by MI as a replacement for Will Jacks, who left the squad due to international commitments. Acquired for Rs 5.25 crore ahead of the playoff stage, Bairstow, renowned for his aggressive batting, lived up to expectations in his very first outing for the franchise.

Bairstow Delivers Under Pressure on MI Debut

Before joining MI, Bairstow was part of the Punjab Kings squad. His experience and attacking prowess made him a valuable addition to MI at this crucial, high-pressure stage of the tournament. His quick-fire innings helped MI build early momentum and put pressure on the GT bowling attack.

Bairstow’s knock came to an end in the 8th over when he attempted another reverse sweep off Sai Kishore, only to be caught by Gerald Coetzee. Despite his dismissal, Bairstow’s explosive start laid a solid foundation for MI. If MI win today, they will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 1 June.
