IPL 2025, GT v RR: Sai Sudharsan overtakes Virat Kohli to move to the top of Orange Cap table

The Orange Cap has changed hands yet again with Sai Sudharsan now perched at the top spot in the batting charts. Sudharsan, who has 456 runs to his name, took over the top position from Virat Kohli in the 2025 Indian Premier League game played between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur. In fact, just yesterday, Kohli had overtaken Suryakumar Yadav’s aggregate of 427 runs. And on the same day, Suryakumar had raced past Sudharsan’s then-tally of 417 runs.  So, it is quite evident that there is fierce competition for the top spot.

Sudharsan, who made his IPL debut in 2022, has been one of the key members of the Gujarat franchise. Last season, he notched up 527 runs at an average of 47.91. By the looks of it, he is set to surpass his tally from the 2024 IPL season. This year, Sudharsan has already accrued five fifties, with his highest score of 82 coming up against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad.

Incidentally, Jos Buttler, Sudharsan’s teammate, is also in the race to take home the coveted Orange Cap. The former England skipper, who won the Orange Cap back in 2022, is currently placed at the fourth position with 406 runs. So, at the completion of the IPL, who will turn out to be the Orange Cap winner? Will it be Kohli for the third time? Or perhaps it is time for Sudharsan to don it? Only time will tell.
