England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow is all set to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Announcing the news on X (formerly Twitter), Bairstow shared his excitement, stating, “Thrilled to be joining the @mipaltan for the rest of the IPL season! Thanks to @YorkshireCCC for the support and allowing me to pursue this opportunity. Can’t wait to get started in Mumbai!”

Bairstow extended his gratitude to Yorkshire CCC for their support in allowing him to join IPL 2025. Bairstow’s arrival is expected to strengthen MI’s batting order in the playoff stage, given that MI qualify. Known for his aggressive hitting and match-winning abilities, he can contribute in both roles — as a batter and a keeper.

Jonny Bairstow has already played 50 IPL matches

Before joining MI, Bairstow had an impressive run in the English domestic circuit, playing for Yorkshire. Recently, he smashed 525 runs in 12 innings across six matches at an average of 52.50 and a strike rate of 68.89. His consistency with the bat includes five half-centuries, with a highest score of 89, making him one of the top performers of the tournament.

However, Bairstow’s inclusion will be effective from 26 May, as he is going to be the temporary replacement for Will Jacks, who will not be available for the playoffs because he will join the England squad for the West Indies series. Bairstow will join for INR 5.52 crore. He already has experience of 50 IPL matches across two franchises — Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) — scoring 1,589 runs at a strike rate of 144.45, including nine fifties and two centuries.
