Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) may have to continue without their standout pacer Josh Hazlewood for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. The Australian fast bowler recently picked up a minor shoulder issue, which forced him to miss a game and has raised concerns about his availability moving forward.
With Australia set to face South Africa in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s from June 11 to 15, Cricket 00Australia is keeping a close watch on the fitness of players expected to be part of the squad. Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa is expected to decide on Sunday whether their players will continue in the IPL if the tournament resumes.
Hazlewood, who has formed a formidable pace trio with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, has had a history of injuries. He previously missed key series, including parts of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the tour of Sri Lanka, and the Champions Trophy. Given his injury-prone track record and the importance of the upcoming WTC final, it’s unlikely he will risk further strain.
Hazlewood is expected to join Australia’s preparatory camp in the UK ahead of the final. His participation in the rest of the IPL appears doubtful as a result.
The BCCI is evaluating the situation closely and plans to consult with teams, broadcasters, sponsors, and government officials before confirming when the IPL will resume. With a ceasefire now in place between India and Pakistan, there is hope for the tournament’s continuation — but ensuring player safety and logistical clarity remains the top priority.
As for overseas players, their availability is still uncertain. Decisions regarding Hazlewood and other international stars will depend on both national team priorities and the final IPL schedule.
