Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Sandeep Sharma has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 after sustaining a finger fracture. The injury occurred during RR’s match against Gujarat Titans (GT), where Sharma showed remarkable grit by completing his full quota of four overs despite being in visible discomfort. He even managed to take a wicket before the severity of the injury came to light.
Following medical assessments, the franchise confirmed that Sharma would not recover in time to take further part in the season. In IPL 2025 so far, Sandeep Sharma has claimed nine wickets in ten matches, though he struggled slightly with an economy rate of 9.89.
Who is Nandre Burger?
To fill the void, RR have brought back South African pacer Nandre Burger, who was a part of the Royals’ squad in IPL 2024. Known for his raw pace and aggressive bowling, Burger played six matches last season and picked up seven wickets. This year, he has been signed for ₹3.5 crore, and RR will be hopeful that he can make an impact if given the opportunity in the final matches of the season.
Burger is no stranger to international cricket. The left-arm quick has represented South Africa in three Tests, five ODIs, and two T20Is. In the SA20 league, he plays for the Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK), where he has taken 13 wickets across two seasons, showcasing his ability to trouble batters with bounce and speed.
With only two games remaining and just three wins from 12 matches so far, RR are currently ninth on the points table with six points and are officially out of the playoff race.
