Delhi Capitals (DC) are in fifth place on the points table with 13 points from 12 matches after their loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in their last match by 10 wickets, courtesy of an exceptional display of batting by Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill.
Three teams have already qualified for the playoffs: GT (at the top spot with 18 points from 12 games), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB, second spot with 17 points from 12 games), and Punjab Kings (PBKS, third spot with 17 points from 12 games).
Only one spot is left for the playoffs, and three teams are in contention for it: DC, Mumbai Indians (MI), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Here are the possible playoff scenarios for all three teams:
Delhi Capitals (DC)
DC can finish with 17 points if they win both their remaining matches, which are against MI and PBKS. If they win both matches, they will definitely qualify. However, if they win against MI but lose to PBKS, their qualification will not be guaranteed.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
MI are currently sitting in fourth place on the points table with 14 points. They have two matches remaining, one against DC and the other against PBKS. If they win both matches, they will definitely qualify for the next round. However, if they win only one, they might not qualify — especially if DC win both their remaining games.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
For LSG to qualify, there is one possible path: they must win all their remaining matches by good margins and hope that DC do not win both their matches and that MI lose at least one of their remaining two. LSG’s remaining matches are against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), GT, and RCB.
