The IPL 2025 playoff action shifts from Mullanpur to Ahmedabad for the season’s penultimate clash, where Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2. The winner will earn a place in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 3.

With PBKS eyeing their maiden title and MI chasing a record-extending sixth, the stakes are high. Captains Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya will also be keen to add a second IPL trophy to their captaincy records. However, weather concerns could impact the high-voltage encounter.

The forecast offers cautious optimism. According to AccuWeather, there’s no threat of rain during the match hours, with showers only expected early Monday morning. That said, cloud cover is expected after 6 PM, and a late interruption can’t be ruled out entirely.

What if the game gets washed out?

As per IPL playing conditions, if the match is completely washed out, the team that finished higher in the league table will progress to the final. That means PBKS, who topped the standings, will move forward should the match be abandoned, while fourth-placed MI would miss out. It is pertinent to note that no reserve day is scheduled for this match.

Fortunately, the Narendra Modi Stadium is well-equipped with a state-of-the-art sub-surface drainage system capable of clearing 75mm of water in just 30 minutes — three times the usual rate. Additionally, the IPL governing council has allowed a two-hour buffer to complete rain-affected matches during the playoff matches.

All considered, while weather may threaten shortly, conditions remain largely favourable for play to go ahead as planned.
