Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 30 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining a slow over rate during the final league match of IPL 2025 between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This marked his third over-rate offence of the season.
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 70 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB),” the BCCI stated in a media release.
“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined ₹30 lakh,” the release added.
The rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were also fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever was lower.
Pant Shines with Century but LSG Fall Short Against RCB
Despite the setback, Pant ended his IPL 2025 campaign on a high personal note. Leading from the front, he smashed a brilliant unbeaten 118 off 61 balls, including 11 boundaries and eight sixes. He celebrated the milestone with an iconic cartwheel that sent fans into a frenzy.
Pant came in at No. 3—usually occupied by Nicholas Pooran—after Matthew Breetzke was bowled by Nuwan Thushara for 14. He reached his half-century in just 29 balls and shared a 152-run stand in 78 balls with Mitchell Marsh, who contributed 67. Their combined efforts helped LSG post a formidable total of 227/3.
However, Pant’s knock wasn’t enough. In a must-win match to avoid the Eliminator, RCB chased down the target comfortably in just 18.4 overs. Virat Kohli scored 54, while Jitesh Sharma delivered a match-winning unbeaten 85 off only 33 balls. With this win, RCB became the first team in IPL history to win all their away matches in a single season.
RCB will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. The loser of that match will take on the winner of the Eliminator on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
